How to convert HEIC to JPG (iPhone photos) for free

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. It keeps file sizes small, but plenty of websites, older Windows PCs and online forms still won't accept it. The fix is to convert the photo to JPG, which opens everywhere.

Open the HEIC converter → Free Free to use, with no watermark and no sign-up.

Step by step

  1. Open the File Editor. Go to Postscript's File Editor and pick the HEIC · SVG · ICO · BMP task.
  2. Upload your photo. Choose the HEIC file from your computer or phone. AirDrop or email it to yourself first if it's still on your iPhone.
  3. Pick JPG. Choose JPG as the output format (or PNG if you need a lossless copy).
  4. Download. Click convert and save the new file. It's ready to upload anywhere.

JPG or PNG?

Pick JPG for everyday photos: it's small and every site accepts it. Pick PNG if you plan to edit the image again or need sharp text and edges, since PNG doesn't lose any detail when saved.

Stop your iPhone saving HEIC in future

If you'd rather skip the conversion altogether, open Settings → Camera → Formats on your iPhone and choose Most Compatible. New photos will save as JPG. Photos you've already taken stay as HEIC, so convert those with the steps above.

Converting on a Mac or PC instead

On a Mac, you can open a HEIC photo in Preview and use File → Export to save a JPG. Windows 10 and 11 can open HEIC with Microsoft's HEIF extension and save a copy from the Photos app. Postscript is handy when you're on a computer without those, or just want it done in a browser tab.
