How to convert PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG or any image to WebP
Different places want different image formats. A website might ask for JPG, a designer might want PNG, and a fast-loading blog does best with WebP. Postscript's image converter switches between all three in seconds.
Step by step
- Open the File Editor. Choose the Convert image task.
- Upload the image. Pick a PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or most other common image files.
- Choose the new format. Tap PNG, JPG or WebP.
- Download. Save the converted image to your device.
Which format should you use?
JPG is best for photos and is accepted almost everywhere. PNG is best for graphics, screenshots, logos and anything with a transparent background. WebP makes the smallest files for websites, and every modern browser supports it.
A note on transparency
JPG can't store transparency, so a transparent PNG converted to JPG gets a solid background. If you need to keep the see-through areas, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Common problems
The JPG looks blotchy around text: JPG is designed for photos, so sharp text and flat colours get fuzzy edges. Keep graphics as PNG. The file got bigger: converting a small, simple PNG graphic to JPG can sometimes make it larger; try WebP instead. A transparent background turned black or white: that's JPG not supporting transparency.
Questions
Is there a file size limit?
Everything runs in your browser, so the limit is your device's memory. Normal photos and graphics convert without any trouble.
Is it really free?
Yes. Image conversion is free, with no watermark.
Can I make the file smaller too?
Yes. Use the Resize/compress image task to shrink the dimensions and lower the quality setting.
Does converting to PNG improve quality?
No. It stops any further loss, but it can't restore detail a JPG has already thrown away.
