How to add page numbers to a PDF
Merged PDFs, scanned documents and exported slides often have no page numbers, which makes them hard to refer to in a meeting or a print shop. Adding them takes one step.
Step by step
- Open the File Editor. Choose Add page numbers.
- Upload the PDF. Pick the document to number.
- Add the numbers. Run the task.
- Download. Save the numbered PDF.
Merge first, then number
If your document is made of several PDFs, combine them with Merge PDFs first and add page numbers last, so the numbering runs straight through.
Why page numbers matter
They make a document easy to discuss ("see page 12"), keep printed pages in order if they're dropped, and are often required for applications, theses and legal bundles. If the document will be printed double-sided, number it after any blank pages are added so the numbering matches the paper.
