How to convert Excel to CSV, JSON or Google-friendly formats
Mailing tools, online stores and databases usually want CSV. Developers want JSON. Your accountant wants Excel. Postscript converts a spreadsheet to whichever one you need, without opening Excel.
Step by step
- Open the File Editor. Choose Convert spreadsheet.
- Upload your spreadsheet. Excel (.xlsx, .xls), CSV, TSV, JSON or OpenDocument (.ods).
- Choose the format. Excel, CSV, TSV, JSON, ODS or an HTML table.
- Download. Save the converted file.

CSV only holds one sheet
A CSV file is a single table of plain text, so formatting, formulas and extra sheets don't come across. Keep the original Excel file as your master copy and convert a copy to CSV when a site asks for it.
Watch out for these
Leading zeros in phone numbers and ZIP codes can vanish when a CSV is reopened in Excel, so check them. Dates may change format between countries. Accented characters are safest when the receiving system expects UTF-8 text, which most modern tools do.
