How to add a watermark like CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT to a PDF
A watermark makes it clear a document is a draft, confidential or a sample, and discourages people from passing it off as the final version. Postscript stamps your text diagonally across every page.
Step by step
- Open the File Editor. Choose Watermark PDF.
- Upload the PDF. Pick the document.
- Type your text and set the opacity. Lower opacity keeps the page easy to read.
- Download. Save the watermarked copy.
Keep an unmarked original
The watermark is part of the new file, so keep the clean original somewhere safe and send the watermarked copy.
What a watermark won't do
A visible watermark discourages copying and makes the status of a document obvious, but it doesn't lock the file. For anything truly sensitive, share it only with the people who need it, and consider a password-protected file or a secure sharing service.
